He Was Moved with Compassion for Them

And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 14:14 NKJV

Jesus had withdrawn to a quiet place after His cousin John had been beheaded. Yet the crowds followed Him. The Lord Jesus gave everything—He gave Himself. He, the King, held nothing back from those who sought Him.

It is true that He spoke to the crowds in parables and explained them only to His disciples, because it was given to them to understand (Matthew 13:10–11). But when it came to His mercy, there were no limits. He completely denied Himself and healed the sick. The King became a servant. He set people free. There was no religion that forbade healing at a certain time (Matthew 12:10–12). Whoever came to Him, He did not turn away.

But what about us? Do we give ourselves fully to Him? Even when we are tired? When things go wrong and sorrow threatens to overwhelm us? Jesus had just lost His cousin, yet He was there again for the crowds. Here we see the beauty of the Trinity in action. Jesus, the Son of God, sought the Father in solitude (Matthew 14:13)—not publicly with eloquent words (Mark 12:40). As He spoke, so He was. And He was filled with the Holy Spirit, through whom the power of God was revealed in Him. We too can be filled with the Holy Spirit. That same power from above can be at work in us.

Jesus loves His brothers, the Jewish people. Despite their unbelief, He was moved with compassion for them. When you seek Him, He will not turn you away. As He is, so is His Father. Hostages have spoken of the nearness of Hashem in the darkness of hamas and the tunnels—how they experienced God’s presence there. He was moved with compassion for them. When you come to Jesus with a searching heart, He will never reject you. With Him there is no such thing as, “Now is not a good time.”

How wonderful is His Name! He who gave Himself on the cross, who bore all sin and endured the full wrath of God. And how great is God the Father, that He did this to save His creation. Yes, God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life. Open the door of your heart wide. Receive the Son of God into your life. Bow your knees before Him who gave everything. He will not reject you—He welcomes you. He has given us the power to become children of God (John 1:12).

Become a child of God. Choose Jesus. Today.
